Ductless heat pumps are gradually rising to popularity.
There are mainly two reasons why homeowners are choosing ductless heat pumps. Ductless heat pumps are portable and energy efficient. It is estimated that ductwork accounts for up to 30 percent heat loss in a standard home. Save money on your energy bills by installing a ductless heat pump.
Ductless Heat Pump
A ductless heat pump has two main units – an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The outdoor unit contains the compressor or condenser, while the indoor unit contains the air handler. In addition, there are conduits that connect the outdoor and indoor units. Each indoor unit requires a separate conduit to connect to the outdoor unit. A conduit consists of a condensate drain, refrigerant tubing, power cable, and suction tubing. Ideally, the outdoor unit is installed outside of your house in an unobstructed area, while the indoor unit should be installed in a preferred location inside your home. Heat pumps with free standing indoor units are also available.
No Ductwork Required
A ductless heat pump does not require installing ductwork. In addition, you do not need an extra inside unit as needed in a conventional heating system. A major percentage of heat pumps generate heat by heating air rather than water. Once the air is heated, it is circulated to different rooms in your house. In a ductless HVAC system, the circulation is done directly through the conduits to the indoor units that are mounted on the walls or ceiling of a home.
Cooling happens when the compressor in the outdoor unit mobilizes the coolant and forces it to flow through the conduit. Then fans are used to circulate the cool air through the evaporative coil onto the indoor units installed in different parts of the house. Some heating pumps help to lower the humidity levels of the indoor air. This helps to make the indoor atmosphere more comfortable during the winter season.
Save Money and Energy
Another advantage of using a ductless heat pump is that you can use it to heat up a small space. You do not need to waste energy in heating up your entire house when you need to heat only a small zone. It is estimated that a ductless system can help you save up to 40 percent on your energy bills. It is also easy to install because it does not require installing the ductwork.
