Hely Heating & Air Conditioning is dedicated to ensuring that your St. Louis home’s AC system is keeping you cool.
Sometimes when you turn on the air conditioner you do not feel comfortable due to the lack of cool air. The airflow problem can be due to some common reasons which can be rectified easily. We will discuss some of these problems and offer some solutions.
Most people turn on their air conditioners during the hot weather months and use them 24/7. This causes strain on the system and power outages are not uncommon. If this is the reason you can rectify the situation by resetting the thermostat. You should also check whether the power switch of the unit is on.
Other family members may prefer different temperatures and turn up the thermostat accordingly. So check whether the thermostat is set at the right temperature. Otherwise, the thermostat could be defective or the batteries could be dead. So it may not be sending the correct signals to the system.
Filters May Be Clogged
Air filters remove the dust and other contaminants from the air so that they do not get trapped in the ducts. If they are clogged it will be difficult for the air to pass through.
Blocked Vents And Registers
Sometimes, when we shift the furniture in the room we place a sofa set or something else in front of a vent. This blocks the airflow.
Condenser Unit Needs Cleaning
Usually, the condenser unit is placed outside. It is exposed to all types of weather and dirt, debris, and soot. If it becomes dirty optimum airflow may not be there. So keep the surroundings of the condenser clean. Call an HVAC technician to clean the condenser unit.
Problem With the Ductwork or Design
The AC system should be designed correctly and the ducts should be installed properly so that the right amount of air is delivered to every room. If there are too many bends in the ductwork the airflow will be reduced. If the space is redesigned the original ductwork may have to be changed to suit the space.
An oversized or an undersized AC system could cause airflow issues and may not cool properly. The on and off cycle may be more frequent in an AC which is too powerful and it may not stay on for a sufficient time to remove the humidity from the air. This can make the place stuffy.
Leaks and Blockages
If there are cracks or holes in the ducts it may cause airflow problems. These holes are sometimes caused by rodents who get in from outside. Or else, the ducts are clogged when the insects, birds or other small creatures build their nests.
If the indoor or outdoor AC coils are dirty, they may not perform the function of absorbing or releasing heat. They may lead to airflow problems.
Fan May Not Be Functioning Properly
The blower fans are responsible for pushing the air through the ducts in an AC system. In case, they are covered with dust and dirt, the blades may not rotate at an optimum speed. This will reduce the airflow.
